Inking

As shown in the video directly above do the following with these things in mind.

NEATNESS COUNTS, EVENLY SPACE OUT YOUR DRAWINGS SO THAT NONE TOUCH OR OVERLAP.

On 1 page in your sketchbook draw 2 lines on the left side of the page pulling/pushing (whichever seems easier to you) the pen and as you do keep the line pressure as lite and steady as possible, draw each in one stroke.
On the same page, draw two more lines and this time vary the pressure that you put on the pen as it moves along the page, draw each in one stroke.
On the right side of the page at the top draw 3 circles as lightly as possible, do each in one stroke. The circles should be about the size of
a quarter.
Directly below the first 3 circles draw three more, as you do pretend a light is shining from the right hand side of the page. With one continuous stroke draw with more pressure on the left side of the circle and less pressure on the right side. This will give the illusion of a shadow on the left side of the circle.  The circles should be about the size of a quarter.
Next you will draw three spirals, you will again have a thicker line on the left and a thinner line on the right. Begin at the center of the spiral and work your way outward. The circles should be about the size of a quarter.
* Below the spirals you will draw 3 separate boxes about the size of a quarter. As you draw, pay attention to the pressure you use when drawing, Two sides with heavy line and 2 sides with a thin line do these 3 the same way.
* Under the first row of boxes you will draw 3 more about the size of a quarter. This time, experiment with the placement of the thick and thin lines.
* At the bottom right hand corner of the page draw 6 individual squiggle lines using one continuous stroke. Start with a tight squiggle then go a little wider and finish by going back into a tight squiggle. Each one should be 2.5"-3" long
* Scan/Photo and turn in.

The images below are examples of cartoons that were hand drawn and inked, then scanned and colored digitally.

Inking Part 2

Inking spheres
* On one single page your sketchbook draw using your pencil, three evenly spaced circles that are about the size of a golf ball.
* Before you begin inking think about where you want the light source to come from. As you ink, allow for a heavier weighted line on the shadow side of the circle and a lighter line on the side of the circle closest to the light. If you choose you can have one light source for each circle or you can apply one light source to all three.
* As you add texture lines to the circle begin at the base of shadow and curve the lines toward the light. Trying to evenly space the lines so that you can come back after and add a shorter line in between the longer ones.
* Continue adding lines until the desired transition from light to dark is achieved
* Lastly you will apply the same technique to the ground shadow.
* Go back and apply this same technique to the other 2 circles.
* Scan or photograph the image and post it to the Inking discussion board.

* The grey scale ball below will help you to see the transition areas

* Upload both inking pages to the inking discussion board in canvas.
