Class and homework update.
Hi,
If you were absent here is what you missed
We had the Acme broadcast from 6-8, then came back to the classroom, discussed both the broadcast and the field trip to the Oakland Museum, looked at the UPA style self portrait and the ball bounce animations. Then we watched the “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” which served as the inspiration for the homework project: Draw what you think the “Great Pumpkin” looks like based on the description of it by Linus in the cartoon. Draw full page, in sketchbook, add black, color is optional.
On Thursday we begin the brick drop project.

Tonight is Acme night
Just a quick reminder!
Tonight Tuesday, Oct.12 from 6-8 in L151 Acme Night.
Bring your sketchbooks... for a special drawing project.
Here is some info on tonights animator.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sony Pictures Imageworks' Marco Marenghi just completed his time as an animation supervisor on Tim Burton's ALICE IN WONDERLAND, working on the pre-visualization for the final battle scenes and several key characters for the movie. Most recently, Marenghi contributed to the animation for Roland Emmerich's 2012, Zack Snyder's WATCHMEN, and Bryan Singer's VALKYRIE. Marenghi previously worked as the animation supervisor on SPEED RACER where he oversaw all the animation for the desert and mountain rally sequences in the movie. A former rally driver himself, this was a match made in heaven!
Prior to SPEED RACER, Marenghi completed work as the animation supervisor on the blockbuster film I AM LEGEND, which was nominated for Best Animated Character in a Live Action Motion Picture at the 2008 VES awards. Marenghi worked closely with his animation team to create the look and feel of the infected humans and animals in the film. For this highly anticipated project, Marenghi oversaw the modeling process, character setup, motion capture and animation support processes, and was instrumental in producing the animation tests and behavioral studies for the entirely CG "infected" human characters.
Prior to I AM LEGEND, Marenghi served as animation supervisor on GHOST RIDER. Marenghi worked closely with both the visual effects supervisor and the film's director to create all motion-related elements of the film. In addition, he oversaw the pipeline, modeling, rigging, and animation departments for every CG element in the film. GHOST RIDER received a Saturn Award nomination for Best Horror Film of 2007.
Prior to his work on GHOST RIDER, Marenghi was a lead animator on BEWITCHED, where he was responsible for all animation on the show. He also worked closely with the film's director and visual effects supervisor to create previsualization, final shots and a camera data system for motion control rigs on the set.
Marenghi joined Sony Pictures Imageworks in July of 2003 as an animator on the ground breaking film THE POLAR EXPRESS. Prior to joining Imageworks, Marenghi worked on MINORITY REPORT, reporting directly to Steven Spielberg, as well as EVOLUTION, TIME MACHINE and the Emmy-winning series "Walking with Dinosaurs" in the UK. Marenghi also spent time at Framestore CFC where he was an animator on LOST IN SPACE and TOMORROW NEVER DIES. Marenghi has also worked on numerous television commercials and video games including The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and James Bond 007: Nightfire for Electronic Arts. In 2008, he was awarded the "Friz Frieling 'Friz Award' for Lifetime Achievement in the Art of Animation and Visual Effects" by the International Family Film Festival. In 2000, he received the UK's Gold Award for Excellence in Industry. He was also the subject of a 2004 BBC documentary entitled "The Marco Marenghi Story". Marenghi holds an HNC in Electronics from the University of Wales and an HND in animation from the University of Glamorgan. In July 2009, Marenghi was the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from his former University in Wales. He is originally from Rhondda Valley, South Wales, United Kingdom.
See you tonight!

Class Update
Hi everyone... a couple of reminders,
1. The transformations that we have seen so far are looking really good. We will look at the rest of them on Thursday.
2. Cartoon Strip:
a. Please ink, color is optional.
b. At the very minimum they can be stick figures. However, I encourage you to take a risk and try designing characters that will fit the story that you want to tell.
c. When designing your panels ask your self... does each panel, in the following order, clearly show an action, a re-action to the action, and the consequences.
d. If the panel looks good I will forward it the the college paper.
e. If you would like to draw out the entire comic and show it to me on Thursday before you ink it, that would be fine. I will collect a scanned .jpg copy of your comics next Tuesday.
3. Homework reading: Read pg. 84-95 in the Richard Williams Book. The reading will discuss movement and timing.
4. On Thursday we will also look at the extra credit drawing project from last weekend. Look below on the class blog for more information.
5. If you would like to come on the field trip remember to bring the money to class.
See you all Thursday. I will be in the classroom at 5:00 if you need help, or email me with questions.
