Intro to graphic Design

March 8, Homework

165 Students:

1. In your sketchbook, loosely sketch out two different backgrounds that show 1 or 2 point perspective with a theme, old west, toy shop, alien planet.... No ink, full page.

2. Make sure that the drawing has nothing in the middle or foreground.
Keep this space open for the movement of the sack. (See examples below)

  3. If you liked the artists video we worked from tonight his name is John Nevarez. If you are really interested in character design, you should also lookup: Bruce Timm, Chris Saunders, Stephen Silver. I will recommend more later.

Tonight one night only Special Rare Cartoons on TCM

Extra credit for anyone that can talk about the cartoons in class tomorrow.

This is a great chance to see rare, restored animation. 

Homework

165 Students:

On Thursday have the tree you drew in class, ready to present.

1. Use blue and red pencil, add black marker paying attention to line quality.
2. Keep the line work clean and not sketchy. 
3. Have fun!

 

166 Students:

On Thursday I will give you a homework drawing project that will require the use of your watercolor pencils and watercolor sketchbook. Bring those items to class.

Weekend Homework

165 Students:
1. Read the 3 page hand out on caricature.
2. Draw 12 Caricatures of famous people that you admire.

166 Students:

1. Below are examples of character pages. 

2. On Tuesday be ready to show your character pages.

3. Draw the figures so that the bottom of each look like they are standing or resting at the same level.

4. All figures should be drawn in blue/red pencil with ink added at the end. Don't erase.

5. Draw front, 3/4, profile, and add a couple of close ups. (for example, fin, wing, paw, head....)

Week 5 Homework Drawing Project

Homework Drawing Project:
Draw a combination of the following subjects into one image. Tell a story with the subject matter. One page, using Blue & Red pencil and ink using two different pen nibs.

The Drawing must include the following in any combination and anyway. 
1. Cephalopod
2. Hat
3. Wings
4. Hot Rod

Yep... this is my version of the project.

Week 5 Homework

Homework Drawing project:
Draw yourself as a Peanuts character. 
1. The final image should look as if Sparky had drawn you himself.
2. Show the full body.
3. Use the red and blue pencil (blue for the geometric shape 
and red for the details).
4. Add ink using two pen thicknesses. 
5. Color is optional.

Yep ...! its your instructor 

as a Peanuts character.

Week 2 Day 8 of Animation Class

Wow! you folks are amazing... you created an amazing amount of work today and you experimented with a lot of different kinds of materials. 

Here is a break down of what you created.

1. A one page mini foldable that is blank. (Hold onto this we will use it next week).

2. A Booklet made of magazine pages that had some of the pages painted over with Gesso. (Hold onto this, we will use it later).

3. A single page from an old book that served as a background for a stenciled object.(This you glued into your sketchbook).

4. Everyone covered an envelope with two collage elements and drawings. The envelope was turned into me, I will mail it back to the college and bring them into class when I get them. 

5. In your sketchbook you experimented with watercolor on wax crayon and colored pencils that were blended with a Q-tip and Un-Natural Turpenoid.

6. Lastly, in your sketchbook, you created an ink monster that required you to blow the ink around the page with a straw. (some of you used a little to much ink...) After the ink was dry, black markers were used to add shoes, hands, eyes or even wings. Check out

the work of Stefan G. Bucher, he has created hundreds of monsters the same way.

Homework

I gave you a pre stapled white booklet, your job is to fill it with doodles or an organized story that you will fill with drawings using all of the topics that came from the story cubes. Using only a pencil is fine, if you decide to ink, be careful because the paper is thin.
